RESUMEN

En este estudio se analizan los sentimientos, las actitudes y las respuesta concretas que desde la óptica de diferentes colectivos sociales y políticos se produjeron ante las demandas de hombres para la guerra quela Corona hizo para poder afrontar el déficit crónico de tropas que se venía arrastrando desde el siglo XVII. Un déficit agravado por la situación bélica que progresivamente se instaló en la Península Ibérica a partir de 1703 y que afectó de manera específica a localidades extremeñas, como fue el caso de Trujillo, cercanas a la frontera de Portugal. Aunque todos eran súbditos de un mismo monarca, los diferentes grupos y colectivos sociales generan respuestas diferentes, en las que intervienen razones de interés estamental y también individual. No obstante, casi todas ponen de manifiesto que no todos los hombres del pasado querían ir a la guerra e hicieron todo lo posible por evitarlo.

ABSTRACT

This study analyzes the feelings, attitudes and specific answers, from the eyes of social and political groups, to the constant Crown demands to end the severe lack of troops that started in the 17th century. This problem was worsened by the increasing bellicose situation in the Iberian Peninsula starting in 1703, affecting mostly specific locations in Extremadura like Trujillo, close to the border with Portugal. Even though all social groups were subjects of the same ruler, they answer in different ways to the same issue due to social class and individual reasons. Despite this, all those reasons show that men in the past did not want to go to war, and they used all their resources at their disposal towards this goal.
