RESUMEN

Este trabajo es una reflexión sobre la institución del Mayorazgo en la Extremadura moderna (ss. xvi-xviii) desde la perspectiva de la historia. El texto aborda, tras un análisis historiográfico previo, el poder familiar ligado a la posesión de la tierra y la proyección que del mayorazgo se hizo tanto para mantener la posición familiar, como un elemento de distinción y prestigio social en un mundo plagado de desigualdades.

ABSTRACT

This study is a reflection about the institution of the “Mayorazgo” in modern Extremadura (ss. xvi-xviii) from the perspective of history. The paper approaches, after a previous historiographical analysis, family power through the possession of the land and, finally, the projection of the Mayorazgo as a mechanism to keep the family position, as an element of distinction and prestige as a determinant of social a world in which inequality.
