RESUMEN

Esta investigación se enfoca en cómo las políticas culturales españolas durante el Protectorado en Marruecos tomaron la dirección opuesta a las políticas francesas, con el resultado final de un aplazamiento de la identidad amazigh que llega a impactar nuestras formas de entender las políticas coloniales, sus culturas y las identidades poscoloniales. La diplomacia cultural de la administración española fue cambiando dependiendo del contexto político local, regional e internacional, haciendo hincapié en una identidad árabe unificada que rechazará la diversidad cultural de los territorios del norte de Marruecos. El impacto que han podido tener una serie de políticas culturales se estudiarán en tres secciones: a) Los fundamentos de las políticas culturales españolas y el nacionalismo norteño; b) adaptaciones; y c) el uso de estas dinámicas en los últimos años del período colonial coincidente con las olas de descolonización árabe y el comienzo de la Guerra Fría.

ABSTRACT

This research focuses on how Spanish cultural policy during the Moroccan Protectorate took the opposite direction to the French one forcing a process of postponement of Amazghité and ultimately impacting our ways of understanding colonialism, cultures, and postcolonial identities. Spanish cultural policies changed according to local, regional, and international contexts but have always put forward an Arab identity that included rejecting North Morocco’s cultural diversity. How these policies have evolved inside the dynamics of local populations of the Rif will be approached in three different sections: a) foundations of Spanish policy; b) its adaptation; and c) adaptations during the last years of the colonial and interwar period.
